He Brought Me Through

Psalm 66

Anchor Scripture:
“For you, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.” — Psalm 66:10

Some testimonies sound beautiful after they're finished.

While you're living them, they don't always feel beautiful.

Psalm 66 begins with celebration. The whole earth is summoned to shout joyfully to God, sing about His glory, and remember His awesome works.

But then the Psalmist takes us somewhere unexpected.

He remembers the testing.

“For you, O God, have tested us…”

He describes being brought into a net. A burden was laid upon their backs. People rode over their heads.

Then come two words:

fire and water.

This is not the testimony of people whose journey was comfortable.

And yet the Psalmist can look backward and recognize something he may not have understood while he was going through it:

God was still bringing them somewhere.

“We went through fire and through water; yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.” — Psalm 66:12

Notice what he doesn't say.

He doesn't say the fire wasn't hot.

He doesn't say the water wasn't deep.

He doesn't pretend the burden wasn't heavy.

He simply refuses to let the difficulty of the journey become the final interpretation of God's character.

That's important for us.

Sometimes we decide whether God is being good based on how comfortable today's circumstances feel.

If the path becomes difficult, we wonder whether we missed God.

If pressure increases, we wonder whether God has withdrawn.

If obedience costs more than expected, we wonder whether following Him was the right decision.

But Psalm 66 reminds us that difficult terrain and divine presence can occupy the same story.

The Psalmist went through fire.

God was there.

They went through water.

God was there.

They experienced pressure.

God was there.

And eventually they could say:

You brought us through.

Perhaps you're standing somewhere today that doesn't look anything like abundance.

Don't force yourself to call the fire pleasant.

Don't pretend the water isn't deep.

But don't write the ending while you're still walking through the middle.

Today's Micro Surrender

I surrender the belief that a difficult journey means God is not being good to me.

Take a moment today and remember one thing God has already brought you through.

Something that once felt overwhelming.

Something you weren't sure you would survive.

Something you couldn't understand while you were experiencing it.

You're still here.

Let yesterday's deliverance strengthen today's dependence.

Because sometimes faith sounds less like:

“I understand what God is doing.”

And more like:

“I remember what God has done.”

Prayer

Father, thank You for every place You have already brought me through. When today's journey is difficult, keep me from questioning Your goodness simply because I cannot see the outcome. Help me remember Your faithfulness while I continue walking with You. In Jesus' name, amen.
