Healing Doesn't Require You to Leave the Cave Too Soon (Day 255)

We don't have to prove forgiveness by abandoning healthy boundaries. David trusts God while remaining sheltered.

Saturday, September 12, 2026 — Psalm 57

Anchor: Psalm 57:1

David is in a cave.

He's hiding from Saul.

Yet from that cave comes this declaration:

“In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge, till the storms of destruction pass by.”

There's wisdom here that we sometimes miss.

David doesn't confuse faith with unnecessary exposure.

He's trusting God from the cave.

Sometimes we've been taught that forgiveness means immediately reopening doors.

It doesn't.

Sometimes God's protection includes distance.

Sometimes wisdom says wait.

Sometimes healing happens while access remains restricted.

And sometimes the Shepherd provides refuge before He provides relocation.

That's particularly important when we're discovering that something from the past still affects us.

We don't have to rush toward reconciliation simply because we've identified a wound.

We don't have to prove forgiveness by abandoning healthy boundaries.

David trusts God while remaining sheltered.

And eventually he declares:

“My heart is steadfast, O God.”

The cave isn't his permanent home.

But for this moment, it is part of God's provision.

Ask yourself:

“Where have I confused forgiveness with unlimited access?”

Then ask the Shepherd for wisdom concerning any boundary that needs to remain while healing continues.

Lord, be my refuge while You restore me. Give me wisdom for my boundaries and a steadfast heart that trusts Your timing. Amen.
