Help Can Come From Somewhere Else

Anchor: Psalm 54:4

“Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life.”

David wrote Psalm 54 while experiencing betrayal.

The Ziphites had revealed David's location to Saul. David was already running for his life, and now people who knew where he was helped his enemy find him.

Yet David makes a declaration before his circumstances have completely changed:

God is my helper.

Sometimes healing becomes difficult because we're still waiting for the person connected to the wound to become the person who repairs it.

We want an apology.

Acknowledgment.

An explanation.

Accountability.

Perhaps even reconciliation.

Those desires can be understandable. But our healing cannot always depend upon another person's willingness to participate.

David doesn't say, “I'll be okay when the Ziphites understand what they've done.”

He looks upward.

God is my helper.

This doesn't excuse wrongdoing or eliminate accountability. It relocates David's dependence.

And perhaps that is deliverance for someone today.

You can forgive someone who never apologizes.

You can heal without receiving every answer.

You can move forward without rewriting what happened.

Because your Shepherd's ability to restore you is not limited by another person's willingness to acknowledge your wound.

Today's Micro Surrender

Identify one thing you've been waiting for another person to give you before you feel permitted to move forward.

Then pray:

“God, I release my healing from their hands and place it into Yours.”

Prayer

God, You are my helper and the One who sustains me. Free me from waiting on another person to do what only You can accomplish in me. Amen.
