Scripture: Psalm 4:1-8
Jehovah Tsidkenu: The LORD Our Righteousness
by Torrie Slaughter
Welcome to a new month as we journey together through one of the most hope-filled names of God: Jehovah Tsidkenu—The LORD Our Righteousness.
This name reminds us that our relationship with God is not built on our own goodness but upon the finished work of Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, we have been clothed in His righteousness and invited to live each day from God's acceptance rather than striving to earn it.
As we explore this name throughout the month, we'll continually return to one important question:
Who told you who you are?
Will your identity be shaped by past failures, present struggles, or the opinions of others? Or will you stand confidently in what God declares about you through Christ?
Today's Psalm begins answering that question.
When God Has the Final Word
David opens Psalm 4 with a heartfelt cry:
"Answer me when I call, O God of my righteousness!" (Psalm 4:1)
What a remarkable way to begin.
David doesn't appeal to his accomplishments, his title as king, or his victories in battle. He appeals to God, recognizing that the Lord alone is the source of his righteousness.
The same is true for us.
There will always be voices competing for our attention. Some will remind us of our mistakes. Others will tell us we are not enough. The enemy delights in whispering accusations that keep us bound to shame, fear, and insecurity.
Yet David reminds us where our confidence belongs.
Because God is righteous, those who belong to Him can approach Him with confidence. Through Jesus Christ, we no longer stand before God dressed in our own efforts. We stand clothed in His righteousness.
As the Psalm continues, David encourages us to pause instead of panic.
"Be angry, and do not sin; meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still." (Psalm 4:4)
Stillness creates space for God's voice to become louder than every accusation.
The Psalm concludes with one of the most beautiful promises in Scripture:
"In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety." (Psalm 4:8)
Peace is not found because every circumstance has changed.
Peace comes from knowing the One who has the final word over your life.
As we begin this new month, may your confidence rest not in your own strength but in Jehovah Tsidkenu—the Lord who has declared you righteous through Jesus Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for revealing Yourself as Jehovah Tsidkenu, the Lord Our Righteousness. Thank You that through Jesus I no longer have to strive for Your acceptance because Christ has made a way for me to stand before You in righteousness. Help me recognize every voice that speaks contrary to Your truth and give me the courage to reject every accusation that does not come from You. Teach me to rest in Your presence, trust in Your promises, and live each day from Heaven's verdict instead of the enemy's accusations. In Jesus' name, Amen.
Reflection
Today, pause for a few quiet moments and ask the Holy Spirit:
What accusation have I believed about myself that Your truth is inviting me to replace today?
Write down the Scripture or truth God brings to your heart, and choose to meditate on His Word whenever that accusation tries to return.
