Psalm 25:1–15 — Living Worthy Means Remaining Teachable

After the triumphant declaration of Psalm 24, David doesn't move forward with pride or self-confidence. Instead, he begins this next Psalm with remarkable humility:

"To You, O LORD, I lift up my soul." (Psalm 25:1)

There is something beautiful about those words.

David has just proclaimed the majesty of the King of Glory, yet his first response is not to boast in what he has learned or accomplished. He simply lifts his soul toward God.

That is the heart of someone who is truly living worthy.

As we conclude our week centered on Living Worthy: Walking in the Righteousness of Jehovah Tsidkenu, Psalm 25 reminds us that spiritual maturity is never marked by having all the answers. It is marked by remaining teachable.

Throughout this week we have learned to trust God's strength, persevere through seasons of uncertainty, follow the Good Shepherd, and open our hearts to the King of Glory. Now David shows us what comes next.

We continue learning.

Again and again, David prays:

"Show me Your ways, O LORD."

"Teach me Your paths."

"Lead me in Your truth."

These are not the prayers of someone who believes he has arrived. They are the prayers of someone who understands that every new day offers another opportunity to grow closer to God.

Today's reading from 2 Chronicles introduces us to King Jotham, who quietly walked faithfully before the Lord without the fanfare that often accompanies more dramatic biblical figures. His strength came not from public recognition but from consistent obedience.

Romans 15 continues that same theme by encouraging believers to patiently strengthen one another and glorify God together. Christian maturity is not measured by how much we know but by how faithfully we encourage others while continuing to grow ourselves.

David also reminds us that the Lord delights in teaching those who approach Him with humility.

"The humble He guides in justice, and the humble He teaches His way." (Psalm 25:9)

Notice the qualification.

Not the smartest.

Not the strongest.

Not the most experienced.

The humble.

Humility keeps our hearts soft enough to receive correction, wisdom, and direction. Pride convinces us we no longer need instruction. But humility understands that every season has something new to teach us about God's character.

Perhaps that is one of the greatest gifts of walking with Christ. No matter how many times we've read the Bible, attended church, or served in ministry, there is always more to discover about His goodness.

Today, ask yourself:

Am I still allowing God to teach me?

Have I become so comfortable in what I already know that I've stopped asking Him to reveal something new?

Living worthy means approaching every morning with open hands and an open heart, ready to be shaped by the Master.

As we step into a new month, may our prayer never become, "Lord, I've learned enough."

Instead, may it always be,

"Lord, teach me Your way."

That is the posture of a disciple.

That is the posture of someone who continues walking in the righteousness of Jehovah Tsidkenu.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for being a patient Teacher who never grows weary of leading Your children. Keep my heart humble and teachable. Show me where I need to grow, where I need to surrender, and where I need to trust You more deeply. Guard me from pride and help me to remain eager to learn Your ways each day. Lead me in Your truth so that my life reflects the righteousness You have given me through Christ. In Jesus' name, Amen.
