Psalm 25:16–22 — Living Worthy Means Trusting God With What You Cannot Carry

As Psalm 25 draws to a close, David's prayer becomes deeply personal.

He has asked God to teach him.

He has committed himself to walking in God's ways.

Now he brings the burdens he cannot carry on his own.

"Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, for I am desolate and afflicted." (Psalm 25:16)

Isn't that encouraging?

Even after declaring his trust, David is still honest about his struggles.

Living worthy does not require pretending that life is easy.

It means bringing every burden into the presence of the One who is able to carry it.

Throughout this week, we have watched a beautiful progression unfold.

We trusted God's strength.

We learned to worship through suffering.

We followed the Good Shepherd.

We opened our hearts to the King of Glory.

We remained teachable.

Now David shows us one final lesson.

Leave your burdens with God.

He prays,

"The troubles of my heart have enlarged; bring me out of my distresses!" (Psalm 25:17)

How many of us know exactly what that feels like?

Sometimes it isn't the circumstances around us that become overwhelming.

It's the weight within us.

Anxiety.

Disappointment.

Loneliness.

Grief.

Unanswered questions.

The burden of praying for someone we love.

The responsibility of caring for others while quietly carrying our own hurts.

David reminds us that none of these burdens are too heavy for the Lord.

Today's reading from 2 Chronicles tells of Hezekiah's courageous reforms as he reopened the temple and restored worship. The work was not easy, but healing began when God's people returned to His presence.

Likewise, Romans 15 calls believers to abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Our hope is not rooted in changing circumstances but in the unchanging character of God.

David concludes his prayer with remarkable confidence.

"Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for You." (Psalm 25:21)

Those final four words beautifully summarize everything we've learned over the past month.

I wait for You.

Not my own plans.

Not my own strength.

Not my own timing.

I wait for You.

That is what living worthy looks like.

It is waking each morning with confidence in God's righteousness instead of our own.

It is trusting His wisdom when we don't understand.

It is following His voice instead of our fears.

It is opening every room of our hearts to His presence.

It is remaining teachable throughout every season.

And when the burdens become too heavy to carry...

It is placing them back into His faithful hands.

As we prepare to begin a new month of reading together, may this prayer remain in our hearts.

May we never outgrow our dependence upon the Lord.

May we continue to walk in His righteousness with humility, courage, and unwavering hope.

Because the God who has faithfully led us through July will faithfully lead us through every chapter still to come.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for walking with me through every season of life. Thank You that I never have to carry my burdens alone. Today I bring You every fear, every unanswered prayer, every disappointment, and every hope for the future. Teach me to wait on You with confidence, knowing that Your timing is always perfect. Preserve my heart in integrity and lead me by Your Spirit each day. Thank You for being Jehovah Tsidkenu, my righteousness, my refuge, and my faithful guide. As I step into a new month, help me continue walking closely with You, trusting You with all that lies ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
