Psalm 24:1–10 — Living Worthy Means Welcoming the King of Glory

There are some passages in Scripture that invite us to pause and reflect, and then there are passages that call us to stand in awe. Psalm 24 does both.

David begins by reminding us of a foundational truth:

"The earth is the LORD's, and all its fullness, the world and those who dwell therein." (Psalm 24:1)

Before David asks us to examine our hearts, he reminds us who owns everything.

The earth belongs to the Lord.

Our homes belong to the Lord.

Our families belong to the Lord.

Our gifts, our resources, our time, and even our very lives belong to the Lord.

Living worthy begins by recognizing that we are not owners—we are faithful stewards. Jehovah Tsidkenu has not only declared us righteous; He has entrusted us with lives that are meant to glorify Him.

As we conclude our month-long journey through Living Worthy: Walking in the Righteousness of Jehovah Tsidkenu, Psalm 24 asks one final question:

"Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place?" (Psalm 24:3)

David's answer is both challenging and encouraging.

"He who has clean hands and a pure heart..." (Psalm 24:4)

At first glance, these words might leave us feeling discouraged. Who among us can honestly say that our hands have always been clean or our hearts completely pure?

The beautiful truth of the Gospel is that we do not approach God because we have perfected ourselves. We come because Jesus Christ, our Jehovah Tsidkenu, has done for us what we could never do for ourselves. His righteousness cleanses our hands. His sacrifice purifies our hearts. His grace gives us boldness to enter God's presence.

That righteousness, however, is never meant to remain merely a position we hold. It becomes a life we pursue.

Today's reading in Romans 14 reminds believers not to judge one another over disputable matters but instead to pursue peace, unity, and mutual encouragement. Mature believers understand that righteousness is expressed through love far more than personal preferences.

Likewise, today's reading in 2 Chronicles introduces us to King Hezekiah. One of the first things he did after taking the throne was reopen the doors of the temple that had been neglected for years. He removed what had defiled God's house and called the people back to worship.

What a fitting picture for the final day of this series.

Hezekiah understood that before renewal could happen publicly, the house had to be prepared privately.

The same is true for us.

Throughout this month, God has been gently opening the doors of our hearts. He has exposed places where fear had taken residence, where pride had quietly settled in, where unforgiveness lingered, or where compromise had dulled our passion for Him. Yet He has never exposed these places to shame us. He has done so to restore us.

Now David's closing words echo like a triumphant procession:

"Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of Glory shall come in." (Psalm 24:7)

Notice that the invitation is directed toward the gates.

Gates determine what enters.

Every day we decide what thoughts, influences, attitudes, and voices will pass through the gates of our hearts.

Will fear enter?

Will bitterness remain?

Will pride take up residence?

Or will we open wide the doors and welcome the King of Glory to reign over every part of our lives?

Living worthy is not about striving to become someone God will finally accept.

Living worthy is joyfully opening every room of our hearts to the One who has already made us righteous through Jesus Christ.

As July comes to a close, I encourage you to take a moment and reflect on what the Lord has done throughout this month. Think back to the lessons He has taught you, the prayers He has answered, the convictions He has lovingly brought to your heart, and the ways He has faithfully carried you.

Then, don't stop here.

Continue walking with Him.

Continue following the Shepherd.

Continue trusting His righteousness.

And every morning, open the gates of your heart once again and welcome the King of Glory.

Because the greatest testimony of a life lived worthy is not perfection—it is a heart that never stops making room for Jesus.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for carrying me through this month and for revealing Yourself as Jehovah Tsidkenu, the Lord my Righteousness. Thank You that I do not stand before You because of my own goodness but because of the finished work of Jesus Christ. Today I choose to open every door of my heart to You. Remove anything that competes for first place in my life, and reign as the King of Glory over my thoughts, my words, my relationships, and my future. Help me to continue living worthy of the righteousness You have so freely given me, bringing You honor in every area of my life. May my life become a continual invitation for others to know and worship You. In the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
