Scripture: Psalm 9:1-12

Remember What God Has Already Done

by Torrie Slaughter

As we enter the weekend, Psalm 9 invites us to pause and remember.

David begins with wholehearted worship:

"I will praise You, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will tell of all Your marvelous works." (Psalm 9:1)

Notice where David starts—not with his problems, but with God's faithfulness.

That is one of the greatest disciplines we can develop as followers of Christ. Before we rehearse our fears, we should remember His faithfulness. Before we magnify our circumstances, we should magnify our Savior.

Throughout this first week, we have been asking, "Who told you who you are?" Psalm 9 reminds us that our testimony helps answer that question.

When we remember how God has carried us, forgiven us, restored us, and remained faithful through every season, the enemy's accusations begin to lose their influence. Our history with God becomes evidence of His unchanging character.

David continues by declaring that God is a righteous Judge who reigns forever. Kingdoms rise and fall, people change, and circumstances shift, but Jehovah Tsidkenu never changes. His righteousness is constant, His justice is perfect, and His promises remain secure.

The Psalm also reminds us that God is a refuge for those who are oppressed. If you've entered this weekend carrying disappointment, uncertainty, or weariness, know this: the Lord has not forgotten you. He sees you, He knows your name, and He remains your safe place.

As we continue learning to live from Heaven's verdict, let gratitude become one of your strongest spiritual weapons. Thanksgiving shifts our focus from what is lacking to the God who has always been faithful.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I praise You with my whole heart for Your faithfulness throughout my life. Thank You for every prayer You have answered, every trial You have carried me through, and every promise You continue to fulfill. Help me remember Your goodness whenever fear or accusation tries to distract me. May my life continually testify to Your righteousness and Your unfailing love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflection

Take a few moments today to write down three specific ways God has demonstrated His faithfulness in your life.

Then thank Him for each one, allowing gratitude to strengthen your confidence in His character.
