Reverence Before Response

by Torrie Slaughter

A Psalm A Day | Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Scripture Reading: Psalm 99:1–9
Focus Scripture: Psalm 99:5

"Exalt ye the LORD our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy." — Psalm 99:5 (KJV)

Have We Forgotten Who We're Approaching?

We often come before God with requests, concerns, and questions.

And He invites us to seek Him.

But Psalm 99 reminds us that the One who hears our prayers is also the holy King who reigns over all creation.

Three times this psalm emphasizes God's holiness.

The repetition invites us to consider something important: worship is not simply about what we need from God. It is also about recognizing who He is.

His holiness calls us to approach Him with reverence, humility, and gratitude.

This doesn't mean we should be afraid to speak honestly with our Father.

It means we remember that the God who welcomes us into His presence is worthy of our deepest respect.

Familiarity with God should deepen our reverence, not diminish it.

A Moment to Reflect

Have your prayers become more focused on what you need God to do than on acknowledging who He is?

Today's Prayer

Holy Father, forgive me for the moments when I approach You casually without considering Your majesty. Teach me to worship You with reverence and gratitude. May my words, thoughts, and actions reflect the honor You deserve. In Jesus' name, amen.

Today's Action

Begin your prayer time today without making a request.

Spend a few moments simply acknowledging God's holiness and thanking Him for who He is.

Remember: The God who welcomes our prayers is worthy of our reverence.
