The God Who Is Worthy of Our Trust
by Torrie Slaughter
"Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; His greatness is unsearchable." — Psalm 145:3
As we conclude this week, Psalm 145 shifts our attention away from our circumstances and places it firmly upon God.
David fills this psalm with declarations about God's character. He speaks of God's greatness, goodness, compassion, mercy, faithfulness, and power. It is as though David is building a testimony one verse at a time.
Why?
Because faith grows when we remember who God is.
Many people spend their lives trying to figure out what God is doing. While there is nothing wrong with seeking understanding, faith often begins by trusting who God is before we understand what He is doing.
Psalm 145 reminds us that God's works declare His character. Every answered prayer, every provision, every rescue, every act of mercy reveals something about the One who performed it.
This week we witnessed God's faithfulness through the stories of Elisha, Naaman, Lydia, Paul, Silas, and countless others. Behind every miracle stood the same unchanging God.
The God who provided.
The God who healed.
The God who opened hearts.
The God who delivered.
The God who strengthened His people.
He is still the same today.
Jehovah Nissi, the Lord Our Banner, is not only the God who gives victory. He is the God whose presence gives us confidence in every season. We do not follow a banner because of what it promises. We follow it because of who carries it.
When you remember God's character, your faith gains strength. His greatness is not diminished by your challenges. His goodness is not threatened by your delays. His faithfulness is not limited by your circumstances.
The more clearly we see God, the more confidently we can trust Him.
Reflection
Which aspect of God's character has strengthened your faith the most this week?
Prayer
Father, thank You for revealing Yourself through Your Word. Help me remember Your goodness, mercy, and faithfulness. When I am tempted to focus on my circumstances, turn my eyes toward Your greatness. You are worthy of my trust and worthy of my praise. Amen.
