Scripture: Psalm 5:1-12
Walking in the Path of the Righteous
by Torrie Slaughter
Yesterday we discovered that Jehovah Tsidkenu is the Lord who declares us righteous through Jesus Christ. Today, David reminds us that righteousness is not only a gift we receive—it is also the path we are invited to walk.
David begins the morning in prayer:
"Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation." (Psalm 5:1)
Before facing people, responsibilities, or unexpected challenges, David first turns his attention toward God.
That is the posture of a heart that understands where true righteousness is found.
Throughout this Psalm, David draws a clear distinction between those who reject God and those who trust Him. The difference is not that one group has never failed while the other has. The difference is where they have chosen to place their trust.
Near the end of the Psalm, David prays,
"Lead me, O LORD, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; make Your way straight before my face." (Psalm 5:8)
Notice that David does not ask God to simply remove every obstacle. He asks God to lead him.
As followers of Christ, we are invited to make that same request each day. Jehovah Tsidkenu has already declared us righteous through Jesus. Now the Holy Spirit faithfully teaches us how to live in agreement with that identity.
Living from Heaven's verdict means allowing God's Word—not our emotions or the opinions of others—to guide our decisions.
Prayer
Father, thank You for leading me in Your righteousness. Direct my steps today and help me walk in a way that honors You. Guard my heart from pride, fear, and distraction, and teach me to trust Your voice above every other voice. May my life reflect the righteousness You have graciously given through Jesus Christ. Amen.
Call to Action
Before making an important decision today, pause and pray:
"Lord, lead me in Your righteousness."
