When It Feels Like God Has Let You Down

This one needs tenderness.

Psalm 60 remembers national defeat and disruption. David speaks with startling honesty: God, You have rejected us. You have broken through our defenses.

But the psalm doesn't end there.

David eventually reaches the confession:

“Vain is the salvation of man.”

Sometimes disappointment exposes where we had quietly attached God's faithfulness to a particular outcome.

If God is with me, this should work.

If I prayed, this shouldn't happen.

If I'm obedient, surely I won't lose this.

Psalm 60 allows disappointment to speak without allowing disappointment to become theology.

That's powerful.

Micro-surrender: I surrender the conclusion I formed about God because of what happened to me.

Standout thought:
What happened may need grieving, but it doesn't get to redefine who God is.

Prayer:
Lord, meet me in the places where disappointment altered my expectations of You. Help me separate what happened from who You are. Restore my trust in Your character. Amen.
