When You Wonder Where You Truly Belong

Scripture Reading: Psalm 87:1–7

Key Verse: “And of Zion it shall be said, ‘This one and that one were born in her’; for the Most High himself will establish her.” — Psalm 87:5 (ESV)

Belonging to What God Establishes

Have you ever felt like an outsider, uncertain of where you fit or whether there was room for you?

Psalm 87 offers a surprising picture of belonging.

The sons of Korah celebrate Zion, the city God loves. But the Psalm also names nations historically associated with opposition to God's people, including Egypt, Babylon, and Philistia.

And remarkably, people from these nations are counted among those belonging to Zion.

The emphasis is not on human achievement or social standing but on what God Himself establishes.

What a reminder that God's redemptive purposes are greater than the boundaries humanity often creates!

As we study El Olam, we can rejoice that the Everlasting God is not limited by earthly distinctions. His purposes extend across generations and nations.

True belonging is not something we can manufacture through human approval. It is a gift rooted in God's gracious work.

The Psalm ends with a joyful acknowledgment of Zion as a source of blessing.

May we learn to celebrate what God establishes rather than measuring our worth by temporary acceptance or rejection.

Today's Refrain

My security rests in what the Everlasting God establishes, not in human approval.

A Prayer for Today

Everlasting Father, thank You that Your purposes reach beyond the divisions we create. Help me find security in Your gracious work rather than the approval of others. Give me a heart that welcomes those whom You are drawing to Yourself. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today's Challenge

Think of someone who may feel overlooked or excluded.

Offer a genuine word of welcome or encouragement today, remembering that God's grace teaches us to make room for others.

Ask yourself: Am I celebrating the people God is drawing near, or allowing human distinctions to shape whom I welcome?
