Scripture Reading: Psalm 89:38–52

Key Verse:
“How long, O LORD? Will you hide yourself forever? How long will your wrath burn like fire?” — Psalm 89:46 (ESV)

When Faith Has Questions

Have you ever struggled to reconcile what God has promised with what you are experiencing?

Psalm 89 takes a surprising turn. After celebrating God's faithfulness and remembering His covenant with David, Ethan begins describing what appears to be the rejection and humiliation of the anointed king.

The promises he celebrated now seem painfully distant from the circumstances he sees.

And rather than pretending everything is fine, Ethan brings his questions directly to God.

"How long, O LORD?"

Those words are not unfamiliar throughout Scripture. They express the anguish of someone who remembers God's promises but cannot understand the present situation.

Notice what Ethan does not do.

He does not stop speaking to God.

Instead, he brings his disappointment, confusion, and longing into prayer.

Faith does not require us to hide our questions. It invites us to bring them before the One who remains faithful.

As we continue learning about El Olam, the Everlasting God, we must remember that His eternal nature does not make our temporary suffering insignificant.

He sees what we cannot understand, and His Word gives us permission to lament without abandoning reverence.

Psalm 89 closes with praise, even though the tension has not been resolved.

What a reminder that worship is not always the celebration of an answered prayer. Sometimes it is the decision to acknowledge God's worthiness while we are still waiting.

Today's Reflection Question

What disappointment or unanswered question have you been carrying that you need to bring honestly before God rather than allowing it to quietly shape your view of Him?

Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for welcoming me into Your presence even when my heart is troubled. Teach me to bring my questions before You with honesty and humility. Help me remember Your faithfulness when my circumstances are difficult to understand. Strengthen my trust as I wait upon You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Today's Purposeful Practice

Read Psalm 89:46–52 slowly. Write a brief prayer expressing one question or concern you have been carrying. Resist the urge to resolve it immediately. Spend a few quiet moments acknowledging God's presence.

Today's Refrain: I can bring my unanswered questions to the God whose faithfulness never changes.

Tomorrow, Psalms 90 and 91 will remind us that the Everlasting God is not only faithful through generations but also our dwelling place in every season.
