Restore Us Again, O God

by Torrie Slaughter

There comes a moment when you realize…

Something is off.

Not completely broken.
Not beyond repair.
But not what it used to be.

Psalm 80 is a prayer for that exact moment.

“Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved.” (Psalm 80:3)

This isn’t a casual prayer.
It’s a cry for restoration.

The Psalm describes a vine that God once planted—strong, growing, thriving…

But now it’s been broken down.
Exposed.
Vulnerable.

And the question underneath it all is this:

👉 God, how did we get here—and will You restore us again?

That’s where Jehovah Shalom meets us.

Not in perfection…
but in the place where we recognize we need Him again.

Peace is not pretending everything is fine.
Peace is found in turning back to the One who can restore what has been damaged.

And notice this—the Psalm doesn’t just ask once.

It repeats:

“Restore us…” (verses 3, 7, 19)

Because sometimes restoration isn’t instant.
It’s a process of returning… again and again… until our hearts are fully aligned.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, restore what has been broken in me. Where I have drifted, bring me back. Where I have grown weak, strengthen me again. Let Your face shine on my life, and lead me into Your peace. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
