The Wisdom of the Shepherd's Hands
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 104:24–35
There is something deeply humbling about looking at creation and realizing that everything we see testifies to the wisdom of God. The psalmist continues with awe: “O Lord, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches” (Psalm 104:24).
This is not casual admiration—it is reverence. It is the recognition that nothing about God’s creation is accidental. The seas, the creatures, the rhythm of day and night, the provision for every living thing—all of it reveals divine order. This matters because when life feels chaotic, we often assume God has stepped away from the details. But Psalm 104 reminds us that the same God who sustains the oceans is still attentive to your life.
Jehovah Raah, the Lord our Shepherd, does not simply react to our needs—He leads with wisdom. A shepherd knows where the green pastures are before the sheep ever realize they are hungry. God’s leadership is never random. His timing is intentional. His provision is precise.
Verse 27 says, “These wait all upon thee; that thou mayest give them their meat in due season.” Creation itself waits on God. The birds do not panic over provision. The sea creatures do not hold emergency meetings over tomorrow. They depend on the order established by their Creator.
Yet we, with all our intelligence and scheduling apps, still worry ourselves into spiritual dehydration.
We often mistake anxiety for responsibility (it isn't) Brothers and Sisters please know that trust is also a form of obedience.
David understood this when he declared in Psalm 23 that the Lord is his Shepherd. Shepherding requires trust. Sheep do not create the pasture—they follow the one who knows where it is.
Psalm 104 ends with worship: “I will sing unto the Lord as long as I live.” Why? Because when you realize God is sustaining all things, praise becomes the proper response.
Today, instead of measuring your life by what feels uncertain, look at the evidence of God’s wisdom around you. The God who orders the stars has not misplaced your future. The One who feeds creation has not forgotten your need.
You are not overlooked. You are being led.
Prayer Point
Lord, teach me to trust Your wisdom over my worry. Help me to recognize Your hand in both the big and small details of life. As Jehovah Raah, lead me beside the places You have prepared for me, and help me stop striving for what You have already planned. Let my heart respond with worship instead of fear, and remind me daily that I am safest when I follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
