Psalm 105:1–15
There are seasons in life when the greatest spiritual discipline is not learning something new—it is remembering what God has already done.
Psalm 105 opens with a call that feels both joyful and urgent: “O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people” (Psalm 105:1). This is not a polite suggestion. It is an instruction. Remembering God’s faithfulness is not optional for the believer; it is necessary for spiritual stability.
Why? Because forgetfulness creates vulnerability.
When we forget how God provided before, fear gains a microphone. When we forget how He healed, delivered, or sustained us, doubt begins writing sermons in our minds. The enemy often does not need new weapons—he simply needs us to forget old victories.
The psalmist tells us to seek His face continually, to remember His marvelous works, His wonders, and His judgments. In other words: do not let your present pressure erase your history with God.
Jehovah Raah—the Lord our Shepherd—leads by memory as much as movement. A shepherd guides sheep not only by direction but by relationship. Sheep learn the shepherd’s voice because they have heard it before. Trust grows through remembrance.
This Psalm reflects on God’s covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Before Israel was a nation, before land was possessed, before promises were visible, God had already spoken. He was leading before they could trace the path.
That is important for us.
Sometimes we panic because we cannot see the full picture, but God is not building your life in real time like a stressed contractor trying to finish before inspection. He already knows the end from the beginning.
Verse 4 says, “Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.” Notice—it does not say seek the plan first. Seek Him first.
Many people want God’s hand without pursuing His heart. We want the blessing, the answer, the breakthrough—but the Shepherd calls us into relationship, not just results.
Ruth followed Naomi without seeing the full outcome. The Samaritan woman left her waterpot after encountering Jesus. Both were changed because they responded to the voice of God, not just the comfort of certainty.
Today, take inventory of your testimony. What has God already done? Where has He already proven faithful? Your memory is holy ground.
Do not let temporary frustration make you forget eternal faithfulness.
The Shepherd who led you then
is still leading you now.
Prayer Point
Father, help me remember Your faithfulness. When fear tries to speak louder than truth, remind me of every place You carried me before. Let gratitude silence anxiety and let remembrance strengthen my trust. As Jehovah Raah, teach me to seek Your face above Your hand and to follow Your voice with confidence. I will not forget who led me this far. In Jesus’ name, amen.
