When Grace Finds Us Wandering

by Torrie Slaughter

Have you ever known what was right—but chose something else anyway?

Psalm 106 meets us in that very place. It's a mirror for the soul—a sacred reflection of the tension between divine faithfulness and human forgetfulness. While Psalm 105 celebrates God's miraculous interventions, Psalm 106 confesses the failures that followed.

It opens with praise:

“Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” (Psalm 106:1, NIV)

And then… it remembers:

  • How God’s people forgot His wonders,

  • How they grumbled in the wilderness,

  • How they exchanged God’s glory for empty idols.

And yet—despite their rebellion—God never erased His people.
His compassion rose again and again, even when they didn’t deserve it.

“Yet He saved them for His name’s sake, to make His mighty power known.” (Psalm 106:8, NIV)

This is not just Israel’s story. It’s ours.
We, too, forget. We drift. We replace trust with control.
But God?
He doesn’t abandon ship when we fall overboard. He jumps in to rescue us. Every. Single. Time.

Action Step:
Take a moment today to confess an area of your life where you've wandered—whether in doubt, distraction, or disobedience.
Write a prayer of repentance and renewal, and then thank God for
not giving up on you.

Let today mark your return to the arms of grace.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We come before You with humble hearts, acknowledging Your steadfast love and faithfulness, as proclaimed in Psalm 106. Forgive us for the times we've chosen our own way instead of trusting Yours. Thank You for never walking away from us. Teach us to walk in remembrance, humility, and joyful obedience.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
