Day 137 Finding Hope and Freedom: A Journey Through Psalms 113 & 114
Psalm 113 reveals a God who is not distant or indifferent. He stoops down to raise the poor from the dust and seat them among princes. He gives the barren woman a home. This is our God—exalted in position but near in presence.

Finding Hope and Freedom: A Journey Through Psalms 113 & 114
by Torrie Slaughter
Hello, dear friends,
As we walk through the pages of Scripture, we’re reminded that the Psalms are not just ancient songs—they’re spiritual lifelines. Today, we pause with Psalms 113 and 114, two beautifully paired hymns that lift our gaze upward while grounding us in the promises of God’s faithfulness and power.
✨ Psalm 113: He Lifts the Lowly
This psalm opens with an emphatic call:
“Praise the Lord! Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!” (v.1)
From the rising of the sun to its setting, God is worthy of praise—not just for His majesty, but for His mercy.
Psalm 113 reveals a God who is not distant or indifferent. He stoops down to raise the poor from the dust and seat them among princes. He gives the barren woman a home.
This is our God—exalted in position but near in presence.
🌾 Application: In a world that often overlooks the humble and the hurting, God sees. He lifts. He restores. If you feel unseen today, Psalm 113 declares: He is not only aware—He is already moving.
🌊 Psalm 114: The Earth Trembles
Psalm 114 takes us back to a moment of awe—the exodus. When Israel walked out of Egypt, creation itself responded:
“The sea looked and fled, the Jordan turned back... The mountains skipped like rams.”
This psalm isn’t just a retelling of history. It’s a proclamation of what happens when God’s presence leads the way.Obstacles move. Hard places shift. Water flows from rock.
What once was bondage becomes a passage to blessing.
🕊️ Spiritual Truth: The same God who delivered Israel is still delivering today. He’s the one who makes a way in the wilderness and rivers in dry places (Isaiah 43:19). Your Red Sea may look impossible, but Psalm 114 whispers: God specializes in impossible.
💬 Final Encouragement:
As you reflect on these psalms, remember—your praise is powerful. It connects you to a God who lifts the lowly and parts the sea. Let these chapters remind you that no situation is too small to capture His compassion or too big to outrun His power.
So praise Him in your dust and praise Him in your deliverance—because either way, He’s working on your behalf.
🙏🏽 Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
We thank You for being both high above the heavens and intimately involved in our lives. Lift our hearts today. Remind us that You see us, fight for us, and lead us with love. May we respond with trust, gratitude, and bold praise. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
