Praising God in the Midst of the Unseen Battle
by Torrie Slaughter
Reading Focus: Psalm 135 | 1 Kings 18 | Acts 11 | Proverbs 17:12–13
🎶 Praise with a Purpose
“Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; give praise, O servants of the Lord…”
(Psalm 135:1)
Worship isn’t just a warm-up before the Word—it’s a weapon in the war you can’t always see.
Psalm 135 is a battle cry disguised as a worship song. It opens with an all-call for the servants of God to praise Him—not casually, but intentionally. Why? Because praise refocuses our hearts, disarms the lies of the enemy, and activates remembrance of who our God really is.
In 1 Kings 18, Elijah boldly calls down fire—but notice what he does first: he rebuilds the altar. Worship prepares the ground for fire to fall. Worship is preparation and participation.
🌟 Worship in the Waiting
“Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing to his name, for it is pleasant!”
(Psalm 135:3)
Worship doesn't ignore reality—it elevates God's supremacy above it. The early church in Acts 11 is learning this firsthand as they wrestle with God's expanding grace beyond their expectations. Peter explains how God moved in Cornelius’ house—before the others even had a chance to process it.
God is often working behind the scenes long before we realize it. That’s why our praise can’t be conditional—it has to be rooted in His character, not our comfort.
🛡️ Remember His Record
“For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is above all gods.”
(Psalm 135:5)
The psalmist recounts God’s works—His creative authority, His deliverance of Israel, and His defeat of enemy kings. Why? Because remembering what God has done strengthens your faith for what He will do.
It’s easy to forget the last miracle when you’re facing the next mountain. But God hasn’t changed. The same power that lit Elijah’s altar still burns today. The same Spirit that fell in Acts still empowers believers. And the same God who defeated kings fights for you—even when it’s quiet.
📣 Call to Action: Praise as Prophecy
“You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!”
(Psalm 135:20)
When you praise God in the tension of the unknown, your worship becomes prophetic. You’re declaring trust before the outcome. You’re singing in the silence. You’re calling down fire—by faith.
So today, rebuild your altar. Remember His faithfulness. And praise Him as if the breakthrough has already begun… because it has.
Prayer
Lord God,
Thank You for the hidden victories, the miracles in motion, and the grace that goes before us. Help us to worship You not just with songs, but with trust. Let our praise stir up faith and silence the enemy. May we remember Your power and proclaim Your name with confidence, knowing You’re working even when we can’t see it. Amen.
