When God Feels Far, Stay Rooted
Scripture Focus: Psalm 10:1–15
By Torrie Slaughter
😔 When God Feels Silent
Beloved, have you ever whispered, “God, where are You?”
Psalm 10 begins with a familiar ache:
“Why, Lord, do You stand far off? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?” —Psalm 10:1 (NIV)
David isn’t losing faith—he’s locating it. He’s expressing real pain in real time, and that honesty is not weakness. It’s relational intimacy.
When we stay rooted in who God is—even when He feels distant—we give Him room to show us that His silence is not absence. It’s positioning.
💥 The Delusion of the Wicked
“He says to himself, ‘Nothing will ever shake me.’” —Psalm 10:6
David pulls back the curtain on the mindset of the wicked. They think they’re untouchable—confident in their own schemes.
But Psalm 10 reminds us: self-made towers will always crumble under truth. God may allow the wicked to rise temporarily, but He never lets them reign eternally.
📢 The Courage to Cry Out
“Arise, Lord! Lift up Your hand, O God. Do not forget the helpless.” —Psalm 10:12
This isn’t passive faith—it’s bold intercession.
David doesn’t just weep—he wages war in prayer. He asks God to act, not out of vengeance, but out of justice. This teaches us something vital:
Being rooted in God doesn’t mean you’re silent in suffering. It means you cry out from a place of trust.
👁️ God Sees. God Acts.
“You, God, see the trouble of the afflicted; You consider their grief and take it in hand.” —Psalm 10:14
God is not distant. He is detailed. He sees everything—and He doesn’t just observe; He intervenes.
He lifts. He restores. He corrects. And He places you exactly where His justice can be known.
The afflicted are not overlooked. They are carried.
✊🏾 A Prayer for the Bold
“Break the arm of the wicked… call the evildoer to account.” —Psalm 10:15
That’s not just symbolic—it’s prophetic.
God doesn’t allow wickedness to go unchallenged. He’s raising up people—like you—who are rooted in His righteousness and rising with holy authority to intercede, serve, and testify.
💬 Reflection Questions for Sunday:
Where do I feel like God has been silent? What truth anchors me there?
Am I willing to cry out in boldness, even when I don’t see immediate change?
How can I partner with God’s justice this week through prayer or action?
🙏🏾 Prayer
Father of Justice,
Thank You for being the God who sees and saves. When You feel far, help us to remember Your nearness through Your Word and Your promises.
We cry out for the afflicted. We lift up those who feel forgotten. And we ask You to arise—not just in our lives, but in our world.
Root us in bold faith so we can rise in righteous action.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
