Silent… but Spiritually Dangerous
by Torrie Slaughter
Psalm 35:17–28
David’s cry in this section is painfully familiar: “How long, Lord, will you look on? Rescue me…” (v.17)
When life feels unjust and enemies seem to thrive, it’s tempting to fight in our own strength. But David shows us a better way—he takes his frustration, fear, and longing for justice straight to God.
Instead of defending himself before his accusers, David entrusts his vindication to the Lord. Even as false accusations fly, he resolves to praise God before the outcome is visible: “I will give you thanks in the great assembly” (v.18). This is the power of staying calm and Spirit-led when the pressure is high—it turns waiting into worship and silence into strategy.
David doesn’t ignore the injustice. He asks God to act, to rise and defend him, and to reverse the plans of his enemies. Yet he finishes with a vow: no matter what, his tongue will proclaim God’s righteousness all day long (v.28).
This passage reminds us that our greatest strength in times of attack is not found in lashing out—it’s found in leaning into God’s presence. When we hand over our defense, we gain the freedom to keep our heart pure, our voice lifted in praise, and our faith unshaken.
Next Step: Identify one situation where you feel the need to defend yourself. Instead, commit it to prayer for the next 7 days—asking God to fight for you while you focus on walking in integrity and peace.
Prayer: Lord, help me trust Your justice and praise You in the waiting, knowing You see and will defend me.
