Rest for the Soul

by Torrie Slaughter

“Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.” (Psalm 62:1–2)

In a world that glorifies hustle and rewards constant striving, David points us to a better way: rest. He isn’t naïve—his life was full of conflict and betrayal—but even in the storm, he anchored his soul to the Rock that could not be moved.

What makes Psalm 62 powerful is David’s choice to preach to himself: “Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him” (v. 5). This isn’t resignation—it’s trust. He reminds us that wealth, status, or human approval are fleeting, but God alone is refuge and salvation.

Resting in God doesn’t mean ignoring the battle—it means refusing to fight it in our own strength. It’s an invitation to pour out our hearts, release the weight, and find peace in the God who holds it all together.

✨ Takeaway:
True strength is found in surrender. Rest isn’t weakness—it’s worship.

Closing Prayer:
Father, quiet our restless hearts and teach us to find refuge in You. Help us release the need to control and instead rest in Your unshakable love. Be our Rock, our fortress, and our peace today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
