Reading: Psalm 69:1–18
“Save me, O God, for the waters have come up to my neck.” (v.1)
Have you ever felt like life’s troubles were closing in faster than you could breathe? That’s where David is in Psalm 69—overwhelmed, misunderstood, rejected. His words echo the cry of anyone who has ever felt like they were drowning in sorrow.
David doesn’t hide his exhaustion: “I am worn out calling for help; my throat is parched. My eyes fail, looking for my God.” (v.3). Maybe you’ve been there too—tired of praying, yet still reaching for God in the silence. That persistence, that clinging even when hope feels faint, is the heart of true faith.
Rejection and shame also weigh heavily on David. He admits, “I endure scorn for your sake… I am a foreigner to my own family.” (vv.7–8). But here’s the good news: Jesus Himself was misunderstood, scorned, and rejected. When we feel the sting of rejection, we are not alone—our Savior has walked that path before us.
Even in his despair, David doesn’t let go of hope. “But I pray to you, LORD, in the time of your favor; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation.” (v.13). That is the turning point—choosing to cry out to God, trusting His love is deeper than the flood.
Psalm 69 reminds us that no matter how far under the waters we feel, God’s arm is strong enough to rescue us. He is the God who saves.
Closing Prayer
Lord, when I feel overwhelmed, help me to remember that Your love runs deeper than my trials. Rescue me from fear and despair, and remind me that in Christ, I am never alone. Thank You for being my refuge and my deliverer. Amen.
