Endure in Truth: Guarding What Cannot Be Stolen- Psalm 79

“O God, the nations have invaded your inheritance” (v.1). Psalm 79 opens with devastation—Jerusalem in ruins, the temple defiled, God’s people humiliated. The cry “O God” is raw, an ache from the rubble.

Haven’t we all stood there? In the ruins of broken expectations, shattered dreams, or painful loss? This psalm shows us we don’t need polished prayers. Faith begins with honesty—laying our grief and questions bare before God. “How long, Lord? Will you be angry forever?” (v.5).

But notice the shift in verse 9: “Help us, God our Savior, for the glory of your name.” Even in pain, Asaph prays with God’s reputation in mind. That’s endurance—seeking God’s glory over our comfort, trusting Him to bring praise from the ashes.

The psalm doesn’t end with restoration, but with hope: “We your people… will proclaim your praise” (v.13). The ruins aren’t the end of the story. God can turn rubble into testimony.

So today, when life feels broken, cry out honestly. Then lift your eyes—because endurance in truth means trusting that God is still writing, and His story always ends in praise.
