📖 Reading Focus: Psalm 90 – Psalm 91
Psalm 90 and 91 are like two sides of the same coin—one reminds us how brief life is, the other reminds us how secure we are when we dwell in God.
Moses begins Psalm 90 with this grounding truth: “Lord, You have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.”He acknowledges that while our days are short and full of labor, God remains eternal. Life’s brevity isn’t meant to depress us—it’s meant to direct us. When we realize how limited our time is, we begin to live with intention. That’s why Moses prays, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
Then, Psalm 91 lifts our eyes higher: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” This psalm doesn’t deny danger—it declares that God’s presence is greater than anything that threatens us. To “dwell” in Him isn’t a weekend visit; it’s a daily choice to trust, to rest, and to abide.
Together, these psalms teach us that while life is fragile, faith is fortified in God’s presence. Our confidence doesn’t come from control but from communion. When we live aware of our limits, we cling more tightly to the limitless One.
So today, take a deep breath and declare: “The Lord is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” Your life may be brief, but your security in Him is eternal.
🕊️ Prayer:
Eternal God, teach me to live with wisdom and peace. When I am overwhelmed by the brevity of life, draw me into Your shelter. Help me to dwell—not visit—in Your presence, trusting that Your protection surrounds me in every season. Amen.
