Psalm 106 : 1 – 12

Psalm 106 is a song that humbles us before it lifts us. It begins, “Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever.” Mercy invites us to worship first—before the breakthrough, before the deliverance—because God’s goodness isn’t dependent on our circumstances.

The psalmist quickly shifts from praise to petition: “Remember me, Lord, when You show favor to Your people.” (v.4) It’s an honest cry for grace. We’ve all had moments when we’ve wondered if God still sees us, yet His mercy always answers with presence. To be “remembered” by God isn’t about being forgotten; it’s about being drawn closer to His heart.

Then comes the confession: “We have sinned, even as our ancestors did.” (v.6) This is where maturity grows—in admitting our failures and trusting God’s faithfulness anyway. His mercy doesn’t overlook sin; it transforms us through repentance. The same God who parted the Red Sea for Israel (v.9) parts the waters of shame, regret, and rebellion for us today, leading us into freedom.

By verse 12, we see the shift: “Then they believed His promises and sang His praise.” That’s the fruit of mercy—it moves us from guilt to gratitude, from failure to faith. When we remember what God has delivered us from, our worship becomes more than words; it becomes witness.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your steadfast love that never lets go. I confess my need for Your mercy today. Purify my heart, forgive my sins, and remind me that Your grace still parts the seas before me. Teach me to praise You not just for what You’ve done, but for who You are. In Jesus’ name, amen.

📖 Reflection

What has God delivered you from that still makes you want to sing? Write it down and let that memory turn into your praise today.
