Fear the Lord, Lack Nothing

by Torrie Slaughter
📖 Key Verse: "Fear the Lord, you his holy people, for those who fear him lack nothing." — Psalm 34:9

Reflection:
We often associate fear with something negative, but fearing the Lord is about reverence, trust, and surrender. When we put Him first, we realize that nothing else truly satisfies. Psalm 34 reminds us that when we fear the Lord, we lack nothing—not because we have everything we want, but because we have everything we need.

As I sit down to meditate on the words of Psalm 34:11-22, I'm reminded of the profound wisdom and comfort found within these verses. In a world filled with uncertainty and chaos, it's reassuring to know that we can find refuge in the promises of God.

Verse 11 begins with a powerful invitation from the psalmist to "come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the Lord."

This call to embrace the fear of the Lord is not about cowering in terror, but rather about recognizing God's sovereignty and wisdom, and aligning our hearts with His will.

Continuing through the passage, we see a beautiful depiction of God's care and protection for His people. Verse 14 encourages us to "turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." In a world that often glorifies wickedness, this reminder to pursue peace and righteousness is both timely and essential.

As we navigate the challenges of life, it's easy to become overwhelmed by fear and anxiety. Yet, in verse 18, we are reminded that "the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." Even in our darkest moments, God is near, offering comfort, strength, and hope.

Finally, in verses 19-22, we are assured that "the righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all." This promise serves as a beacon of light in the midst of adversity, reminding us that we are never alone, and that God is faithful to deliver us from every trial.

Application:

  • Assess your priorities—where have you placed something above God?

  • Pray for a heart that desires Him more than earthly security.

  • Encourage someone today with the truth that God provides for His people.

Prayer:
Lord, I choose to trust You as my provider. Help me to fear You in a way that deepens my faith and leads me into abundance in Your presence. Thank You for being my source. In Jesus’ name, amen.
