Day 82 From the Fire to the Testimony: A Psalm 66 Reflection
Refining hurts. Waiting stretches. Trials expose what’s really in our hearts. But here's the good news—God doesn’t test us to destroy us; He tests us to strengthen us. You’re not stuck—you’re being shaped.

From the Fire to the Testimony
by Torrie Slaughter
“Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what He has done for my soul.” — Psalm 66:16 (ESV)
Hello Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Let’s talk about something we all face—the tension between trial and testimony. Psalm 66 gives us a raw and beautiful picture of what it means to walk through the refining fire and still come out praising.
The psalm opens with a command:
🎶 “Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth!” (v.1)
This isn’t just about singing—it’s about letting your life echo gratitude. It’s a reminder that worship isn’t reserved for when things are perfect. We shout for joy because of who God is, not just what we’re going through.
As the psalm unfolds, we’re invited to reflect on God’s faithfulness—not only in our lives, but in the story of His people. The psalmist reminds us of the Red Sea miracle, the wilderness provision, and all the ways God made a way when there was no way.
Sound familiar? That’s the wilderness-to-witness journey in real time. It’s not just ancient history—it’s your story too.
📍 But then comes the turning point:
“You, O God, have tested us; you have tried us as silver is tried.” (v.10)
🔥 Refining hurts. Waiting stretches. Trials expose what’s really in our hearts. But here's the good news—God doesn’t test us to destroy us; He tests us to strengthen us.
You’re not stuck—you’re being shaped.
Then, right when it feels like too much, verse 12 hits with holy reassurance:
“We went through fire and water, yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.”
💡 Did you catch that?
The fire wasn’t the final destination. The flood wasn’t the finish line. The wilderness wasn’t the end.
It was all part of the path to abundance—to deeper faith, stronger testimony, and a more anchored witness.
And here’s the heart of it all:
🗣️ “Come and hear… I will tell what He has done for my soul.” (v.16)
You’ve got a witness inside of you.
If God brought you through it, don’t sit on it—speak on it.
🔥 Let’s Bring It Home
Psalm 66 is our weekly reminder that God doesn’t waste pain.
He allows what He can use. He refines what He intends to elevate. And He leads His people out of the wilderness and into a bold, beautiful witness.
You’re not just surviving.
You’re becoming a testimony.
🙏 Prayer
Father, thank You for the refining fire and the testimony You’re shaping in each of us. When life gets heavy, remind us that You’re still leading, still loving, and still working. May our lives be loud with praise—not because it’s easy, but because You’re worthy. Make us witnesses of Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
