Psalm 72 — Tuesday, March 31, 2026

When Righteousness Leads, Peace Follows

There’s something powerful about reading Psalm 72 when you realize—it’s not just a prayer… it’s a blueprint for leadership under God.

Psalm 72 is attributed to King Solomon, though some scholars note it may also reflect a prayer of King David over his son as he steps into leadership. Either way, the heart behind this Psalm is clear:

👉 “God, let the one who leads do so with Your justice, not their own.”

This Psalm was written during a time of transition—a passing of responsibility, influence, and authority. And instead of focusing on power, it focuses on character.

What This Psalm Reveals

Psalm 72 paints a picture of what happens when leadership is aligned with God:

  • The king judges with righteousness (v. 1–2)

  • The people experience peace and prosperity (v. 3)

  • The vulnerable are defended, not ignored (v. 12–14)

  • The influence of that leadership extends beyond borders (v. 8–11)

This is not just about a king…

It’s about influence under God’s authority.

And here’s the heart check for us:

Where God’s righteousness leads, peace follows.
But where self leads… confusion eventually shows up.

A Moment to Reflect

Psalm 72 gently confronts us with a question:

“What is guiding how I lead, decide, and respond right now?”

Because whether you realize it or not—you are leading somewhere.

  • In your home

  • In your conversations

  • In your responses

  • Even in your private decisions

And the question isn’t “Are you leading?”
The question is:

“Are you leading from alignment with God—or from pressure, emotion, or habit?”

🔥 This Connects to Your Week

This Psalm sets the tone for everything ahead:

Before we talk about victory…
Before we confront battles…

👉 We must be aligned.

Because victory without righteousness is temporary.
But when God establishes something—it brings lasting peace.

🙏🏽 Prayer

Lord,
Teach me to lead my life with Your righteousness and not my own understanding.
Let my decisions reflect Your justice, my words reflect Your wisdom, and my actions reflect Your heart.
Where I have allowed pressure or emotion to guide me, realign me today.
Establish Your peace in every area of my life as I submit fully to You.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

✅ Action Step

Pause before your next decision today and ask:

👉 “Is this aligned with God’s way… or just my way?”

Then choose alignment—even if it costs you comfort.
