God Decides the Outcome

by Torrie Slaughter

Psalm 75 is a declaration of God’s authority as Judge. It is also attributed to Asaph and was likely written during a time of instability, where people questioned who was truly in control.

The answer is clear from the beginning:

“We give thanks to You, O God… for Your name is near” (v. 1).

Even before circumstances change, the Psalmist anchors himself in who God is.

What This Psalm Reveals

Psalm 75 brings clarity to a world that often feels unfair:

  • God sets the appointed time (v. 2)

  • God is the one who judges rightly (v. 7)

  • Promotion does not come from people—it comes from Him (v. 6–7)

  • The proud will be brought low, and the righteous will be lifted (v. 10)

This is not about striving—it is about trusting God’s authority.

A Moment to Reflect

It is easy to feel overlooked or frustrated when things do not happen the way we expect.

But Psalm 75 asks:

What if God is not late… but intentional?

What if what feels delayed is actually being positioned?

This Connects to Your Week

This Psalm brings the week into focus:

Victory is not always immediate.

But it is always secure when God is the one determining the outcome.

You do not have to force what God has already established.

Prayer

Lord,
Thank You for being a righteous Judge. Help me to trust Your timing and Your decisions, even when I do not fully understand them. Remove any desire in me to force outcomes or strive for what You have not assigned. Teach me to rest in the confidence that You are in control.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

Action Step

Release one situation today that you have been trying to control.

Say: “God, I trust You with the outcome.”

Then choose peace over pressure.
