Remember His Faithfulness

by Torrie Slaughter

📖 Psalm 77:1–20

There are some Psalms that feel like they were written straight out of our own journals—and Psalm 77 is one of them.

“I cry aloud to God… in the day of my trouble I seek the Lord… my soul refuses to be comforted.” (vv. 1–2)

This is a psalm of deep anguish.
It’s the voice of someone who has walked with God… and now feels forgotten.
Someone who remembers what God used to do—but can’t feel it in the present.
And if we’re honest, many of us have lived there too.

But what makes this Psalm powerful isn’t just the pain—it’s the pivot.

After pouring out his confusion, the psalmist makes a bold decision:

“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” (v. 11)

This is the heart of faith in the storm: choosing remembrance.
He doesn’t deny the despair—but he also doesn’t dwell there.

He starts to reflect on what God has done before—how He parted the Red Sea, how He rescued His people, how His power shook the heavens.
And in doing so, he begins to reclaim hope.

“Your way was through the sea… yet Your footprints were unseen.” (v. 19)

That line is everything.
Even when we don’t see God’s path—He is still leading.
Even when it feels like silence—
He is still speaking through what He’s done.

💭 Reflection:

  • Are you sitting in despair, or shifting toward remembrance?

  • What has God already brought you through that you need to revisit today?

  • Can you worship Him even when you can’t see His footprints?

🛐 Prayer:

Father,
Like the psalmist, we cry out to You—loudly, honestly, and sometimes without words.
When our hearts are heavy and our spirits faint, help us to remember.
Bring to our minds the wonders You’ve done, the prayers You’ve already answered, and the storms You’ve already calmed.
Even when we can’t trace Your path, we trust that You are still leading.
Restore our peace through remembrance, and anchor us again in Your unfailing love.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
