Remember What He Brought You Through
by Torrie Slaughter
Some of the most powerful warnings in Scripture aren’t about enemies on the outside—but forgetfulness on the inside.
Psalm 78:32–55 brings us face-to-face with a sobering truth: God can perform miracles right in front of us, and we can still miss the moment.
The Israelites had seen His wonders—His rescue, His provision, His presence. And still, their hearts turned away.
“In spite of all this, they still sinned; they did not believe in His wondrous works.” (v. 32)
This section reads like a journal of heartbreak:
Forgetfulness led to disobedience
Disobedience provoked God’s anger
Yet, God’s mercy kept showing up
💔 Verses 32–37: The Cycle of Forgetfulness
The psalmist calls it what it is: rebellion.
Not ignorance—but intentional turning away.
Even after divine provision, the people “flattered Him with their mouths,” but their hearts were far from Him (v. 36).
It’s a sobering reminder that empty worship is still disobedience when the heart is not aligned.
❤️ Verses 38–41: God’s Compassion Interrupts Judgment
Here’s the turning point:
“But He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity…” (v. 38)
Even when they failed repeatedly, God’s love remained constant.
He remembered that they were human, dust in the wind.
This is who God is: just, holy, and still merciful.
Let that sink in—He remembered them even when they forgot Him.
✨ Verses 42–55: A Call to Remember
Instead of writing them off, God wrote their history in His hands.
He delivered them, defeated their enemies, and carved a path through impossibility.
He gave them not only freedom—but an identity.
“He led His people like sheep…” (v. 52)
🔁 Reflection: Don’t Miss the Moment of Mercy
When we forget what God has done, we fall into the same cycle of striving, fear, and rebellion.
So here’s the challenge today:
Are you remembering His wonders or replaying your worry?
Have you become so familiar with grace that you’ve forgotten the weight of His mercy?
What part of your wilderness journey is trying to shape your faith—but you’re resisting it?
God is speaking through your history.
Don’t miss the moment.
🛐 Prayer
Father,
Thank You for being full of compassion, even when we forget You.
Forgive us for the times we wander in doubt after You’ve already proven Your love.
Help us to remember—not just with our minds, but with our lives.
Let today be a turning point of gratitude, humility, and alignment.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
