“Restore us, O God; make your face shine on us, that we may be saved” (v.3). Three times this refrain pulses through Psalm 80, growing louder with each cry. It’s the prayer of a people in ruins, longing for their Shepherd to return and rescue.

The psalmist remembers how God once planted Israel like a flourishing vine, spreading wide under His care. But now the walls are broken down, the vine ravaged. And the question rises: Why, Lord?

Yet in the midst of grief, faith deepens. The cry shifts from “O God” (v.3), to “O God Almighty” (v.7), and finally to “Lord God Almighty” (v.19). The more they cry out, the clearer their vision of His power and covenant love becomes.

That’s endurance in truth—keeping hope alive by turning again and again toward the light of God’s face.

So if you feel broken today, let this refrain be yours: Restore us, Lord God Almighty. His presence shines brighter than ruins, and in His time, He will restore what’s been lost.
